Urban Tides: Renewal in the Human Landscape

Viewed from the vantage point of an intracoastal bridge, this artwork observes a quiet intersection of city and sea. Two docked yachts rest beside high-rises that dominate the space against a cloudy sky, their movements echoed in the waterway. From an elevated view, the tops of palms reveal the barrier island beneath, a reminder that even within urban environments, nature endures alongside human design.

Nearly three hundred reclaimed metal fragments (razor blades, screws, nails, keys, coins, jewelry pieces, and bottle caps) bring this cityscape to life. The objects were gathered by volunteers from nearby public and transitional areas once used for construction staging. These overlooked remnants, often left behind when work is complete, have been carefully integrated into the artwork.

Grouped by hue and form, blue, green, and silver bottle caps define the towers; rusted metals add texture and depth. Hard-angled shapes form yacht windows, while circular pieces crown their navigational masts. Keys shimmer within the palm foliage, bridging nature and human presence.

The piece honors quiet acts of awareness and care, transforming what was once forgotten into something enduring. It reflects the shared rhythm between people and place and celebrates renewal born from attention to the overlooked.
